The GurgleApps WiFi Word Clock displays the time using illuminated words rather than traditional hands. It’s a modern, design-led timepiece featured in Tom’s Hardware, PC Pro, and MagPi Magazine, and selected by PC Mag as Hot Hardware of the Week.
The Word Clock comes as standard with our signature gold logo faceplate, giving it a distinctive finish and forming our most popular and recognisable design.
For those who prefer a more minimal aesthetic, alternate spare faceplates are also available in a clean, logo-free style. These come in black or blue, allowing the look to be adapted to different spaces or interiors.
We also offer a solder-free version, making this kit especially suitable for children, beginners, and STEM learners.
Measuring just 76 × 81 mm, this compact clock is ideal for desks, workshops, or modern home interiors. An 8 × 8 full-colour LED matrix shines through a precision-designed faceplate to display the time in clear, glowing words.

Assembly & Setup Guides

Includes the faceplate and 8 × 8 LED matrix only.
To complete the clock you will need to:
- 3D print the case
- Add a Raspberry Pi Pico
- Supply a suitable USB power lead
Additional Faceplate Options

- Blue faceplate (no logo)
Faceplates are sold separately and do not include electronics.
Please note: the white faceplate slightly reduces blue light transmission compared to the black version.

Fully Assembled Option
The fully assembled Word Clock arrives ready to use. Simply attach the feet, plug it in, connect to WiFi, and adjust the settings through the web interface.

Detailed build instructions, excellent assembly and clearly labelled components made this a joy to put together. The web interface makes setup simple and allows you to choose colours, brightness and even custom phrases. You can customise the clock with additional features like ambient sensors and alternative matrices. Overall it’s a great kit and a very satisfying project.
